It all starts with the nekojin traveler in the inn
at the entrance to the Misty Swamp.
greet nek
The Nekojin greets you with a short bow and a flash of sharp teeth. In a
strangely-accented dialect, he says:
"May you find shade, fellow wanderer. It is my privilege and honour to be able
to travel through this fine land. So different than my homeland, which is a
sandy waste, though I love it nonetheless. Alas, I wish that my time here was
for recreation, as I would relish such extravagances as shadowed forests and
secluded pools. My mission here is of some urgency, though I doubt you would
be concerned of such matters."
ask nek homeland
"Ahh... the land of my birth is described by many as a barren wasteland.
But for we Nekojin, it is hospitable enough. It would be futile for me to
describe the beauty of the moon, hanging like a ghostly eye over the
serpentine backs of the sand dunes. Even in the face of such lush greenery
that may be seen in this country, I miss it still."
ask nek matters
"Since you inquire, I would say that I am here on a mission of mercy. Strange
things occur in the desert, as a pall of evil has come over the land. The
great pyramids, once abandoned and forgotten, are now rife with all manner of
vile beast, and hordes of bloodthirsty Saracen roam freely. All can feel that
something terrible will soon occur, and I am here to enlist aid, if there is
any. I passed through the Dwarven stronghold of Khazarad, but the folk there
were too consumed with their own business to take note of my pleas. I hoped
to travel to Silvermere to inquire further... if you would be inclined to
investigate this matter, you may speak to our village elder. He knows far
more than I, and has insights into these matters. Seek our village past the
Dwarven mountain, where the desert washes up against its eastern side."
Now, grab a pickaxe and some dwarven ale and
head out to the Dusty Villiage past the redstone tunnels
and before the Scorching Desert. Go to the Ornate Tent
and speak to the Elder
greet elder
The village elder looks up from his meditations as you greet him.
"An outsider, at long last. Precious few strangers do we see here, though
truthfully many more than in the past. Most travelers are either Dwarves,
traveling here solely for trading purposes, or accursed Saracens, who come
to raid and plunder. Thankfully both are rarities. The Dwarves are friendly
enough, as long as you are interested in their wares, but the Saracens are
ruthless butchers who follow the fanatical teachings of their religious
leader without question. It is fortunate that my people are naturally
inclined towards the path of the warrior, for we would have perished long ago
under their onslaught. And they are the least of our problems."
ask elder saracens
"The bloodthirsty Saracens are religious fanatics, who slaughter all who are
not of their faith. They care nothing for life, just for the mindless
propagation of their beliefs. Occasionally we are raided by bands of these
heartless killers, but we have grown wise to their tactics, and now they
are rarely seen around these parts. Dozens of their severed heads placed out
to bake in the sun and be ravaged by scavengers made sure of that. They all
wore these strange amulets... I'll sell you one, for a price."
ask elder amulets
"You are interested in one of the Saracen amulets?"
The nekojin elder takes your money and hands you a heavy copper amulet.
ask elder problems
"There are problems that go beyond even the raids of the Saracens or the
harshness of the desert. As you undoubtably are unaware of, during the last
age there existed a prosperous land here, ruled by a Pharaoh of great might.
Near the end of the age he became very greedy, and sought to cheat death. As
part of this endless greed he constructed a great pyramid in the centre of
the realm. As the sandstone quarry ran out, he destroyed whole towns in his
efforts to complete the pyramid. All the while the evil force of his will,
along with the desecration of the land and pillaging of the cities, drained
the land of its life-- transforming it into this desert wasteland."
ask elder pyramid
"The pharaoh succeeded in his quest to complete the construction of the
pyramid, though it cost the people of the land greatly. But to their mystery,
the expected reign of terror did not come. Silently, and without warning,
the pharaoh vanished, as did all entrances to the pyramid. Many speculate on
what actually happened, but I surmise that some great force sealed the
reckless pharaoh in his own citadel of power. He may even be there now,
his black hatred growing stronger over the centuries. This is one of the
things that worries me-- lately strange dark clouds have been seen converging
over the pyramid. Also, the desert traders, who have a stronghold
nearby the pyramid, say that their trading has been disrupted by increased
monster activity."
ask elder traders
"The traders have a stronghold a short way east of the great pyramid. It would
be an excellent place to begin looking for answers, as they receive the best
and most accurate gossip in the region. I have even heard the leader of these
traders has a Seeress who advises him in his business activities. You would
be wise to seek their aid."
Save yourself some time and go get yourself a saracen
head now before heading out to the guard sergeant at
the entrance to the small pyramid.
greet ser
The sergeant looks you over suspiciously, then gives you a curt nod.
"If you are looking to enter, don't bother asking. No strangers are permitted,
especially unblooded foreigners. Even if you have urgent business, there are
too many Saracen raids right now. Only if you prove your good intentions--
by, for example, bringing me the bloody severed head of one of those foul
raiders-- will I consider letting you in. Now get out of my sight."
ask ser head
The sergeant cocks an eyebrow when you talk to him.
The sergeant says, "Excellent! Now that you're blooded, you may pass."
Go in and find the Trader Tolgard
greet trader
With an annoyed glance, the master trader looks up at you.
"Please, leave me be. I am terribly busy, despite the recent drop in business.
I have no time for idle chitchat, so if you have a reason for being here,
state it quickly and then leave."
ask trader favor
Tolgard stands up, walks to a medium-sized box, and gives it to you. You grunt
in surprise, as it is quite heavy.
"Take this to the Curio shop in Silvermere. Now that the Dwarves have opened
the doors to mount Khazarad once more, it may be possible for me to establish
a trade route there. When you reach the Curio shop, simple tell the clerk
there my name and drop off the box. Return to me once you have done this."
You heard the man- run your little butt all the way
back to Silvermere.
ask meia tolgard
You give the girl the box, which she puzzles over for a moment, and then takes
into a back room. After a few minutes, she comes back, and presses something
into the palm of your hand-- a small ivory token. You quickly put it away
someplace safe.
If you're not tired yet, you soon will be- now run back
out to the small pyramid!
ask trad return
Master Trader Tolgard looks at you expectantly.
You pull out the ivory token given to you by Meia, and slide it across the
trader's desk. With a satisfied smile, he says:
"Excellent. Just the response I was hoping for. You have performed your task
well, and in reward I will uphold my end of the bargain. You are now free to
ask my Seeress whatever you please. You may find her past the curtains at the
back of this room."
With that, he pulls out some papers and begins to work.
Go north and chat with the Seeress
greet see
The seeress gazes at you from the comfort of her cushions.
"I know why you have come. Something strange is indeed going on inside that
accursed pyramid. I have lived in this desert for quite some time, and never
have I felt such dissonance as I feel now. Something has awoken in the
pyramid... by its power, I am sure all our fears are justified. It can only
be the pharaoh awakening after all these long centuries. Whatever has kept
him in stasis all this time has finally vanished, and now that he has risen
once more, he must surely be massing his strength."
"If you choose to investigate further, you must be prepared, both in mind and
body. If you are not strong enough, you will surely fail. On the other hand,
if you charge blindly ahead, your fate will be eternal darkness. Do not
undertake this perilous journey unless you are courageous... though we would

After some time of fruitless translation, you suddenly come upon a short
passage detailing a part of the history of the pharaoh:
"...It was only after the pharaoh had exhausted the quarry's supply of
sandstone did he make the decision to delve further into the mountainside.
Long did the slaves labour under the burning sun to carve out more stone
blocks for the pharaoh's pyramid, and many perished under the cruel whips of
the overseers. Winding tunnels had pierced the quarry walls, delving deep
into the rock, when they came upon the ore.
Blood-red it was, and harder than steel. When the overseers first reported
the metal to the pharaoh, he immediately was overcome with lustful images of
his armies wielding strong new weapons. He doubled the number of slaves, and
set them to mining this new ore. So great was his want for the strange metal,
that thousands died and were dragged outside for the carrion-birds to devour.
Tensions rose as even the strongest slaves began to weaken from malnutrition
and abuse. Finally, one day, as the pharaoh was personally overseeing the
mining operation, an angry slave picked up a jagged chunk of the red iron ore
and flung it at the pharaoh.
What happened next was a shock to everyone. All knew that the pharaoh was a
mighty wizard, and many had perished while attempting to slay him. Normal
weaponry simply would not harm him, as he was cloaked in a magical barrier.
However, when the chunk of red ore struck the pharaoh in the head, he reeled
backward, blood dripping from a deep cut. For what seemed like an eternity,
all froze in shock and horror. Then, suddenly, incredulous that he had been
harmed by a mere slave, the pharaoh unleashed a storm of flame upon the slave
that incinerated him on the spot. Their daze broken by the magical
destruction of their comrade, the other slaves immediately began stoning the
pharaoh with shards of the red ore.
In a bloody fury, the pharaoh called upon his immense magical powers. Demonic
magic swirled about the chamber, causing all who viewed it to stop what they
were doing and quiver in terror. With a triumphant, bloodthirsty cry, the
pharaoh completed his spell, and vanished.
For a moment all thought he had simply left. Abruptly, however, a rumbling
far beneath the earth rocked everyone off of their feet. The rock at the far
end of the chamber split open with great violence, revealing a hideous dark
abomination! The pharaoh, in his indignant hatred, had summoned a nether
beast to devour all who remained in the mine.
It is at this point that I turned and ran for my life. The sound of horrified
slaves and overseers being devoured will haunt me for the rest of my life.
Once a cruel overseer, I now am a simple monk who lives in penitence for my
former crimes. Perhaps I was the only one who survived to tell this tale.
May God have mercy on their souls."
Go back to the seeress to tell her what you've discovered.
ask see return
The seeress gazes into your eyes.
You tell the seeress about your discovery of the ancient language, and the
historical account of the pharaoh's evil deeds. With a contemplative smile,
she says:
"You have learned much in the forgotten library. Indeed, this will prove
extremely useful in your quest. Knowledge of the language of the Az-Hammir
will likely be invaluable. And the secret of the red ore is... intriguing.
That the pharaoh could be harmed by such a metal and by no others is
mystifying. But your discoveries have caused me to forget what I have found
in your absence! Listen closely."
"While you were pursuing this information, I cast my eye about the land in
search of secrets that would aid your quest. And by the grace of the gods, I
found that which I sought. The first, and most important, is that the pharaoh
has long been possessed by an evil spirit. The details I obtained were not
exact, but even since those ancient times he has been a puppet for a powerful
spirit from an outer plane. This spirit is the cause of his great power, and
perhaps his vulnerability to that red ore. I believe that this will be the
key to defeating him. The quarry in which the red ore is located is to the
southwest-- perhaps after obtaining the ore, the dwarves of Khazarad could
forge a weapon out of it for you. The second piece of information that I
found is that all entrances to the pyramid have long ago been sealed. There
is no known way to remove these seals. However, there once were secret
underground tunnels that were connected to a temple of the Dark One, and they
may lead into the pyramid. However, I could not find anyone who knows where
this temple is located! Only one vague rumour was revealed to me-- that one
priest, hundreds of years old and cursed with the 'gift' of eternal life and
suffering by the Dark One, still roams this land. Perhaps he, if he has not
been rendered insane by the Dark One's power, could be persuaded to reveal
the secret entrance to the forgotten temple."
"The time of reckoning has come. I have given you all the aid that has been
mine to give, and now you must go forth and vanquish the pharaoh once and for
all. Remember what you have been told, and remember the secrets you uncovered
in the ancient library. Good luck, and godspeed."
In the northwest corner of the small pyramid is the
withered old man.
greet withered old man
The withered old man takes no notice of you when you speak to him, and only
mutters into his wineskin.
ask with dwarven ale
You give the withered old man the dwarven ale, which he greedily grabs from
your hands. Quickly, he takes a huge mouthful, swishing it about in his mouth
and swallowing it! With an incredibly satisfied sigh, he looks to you
gratefully, and says:
"Ahh, that is indeed the best ale in the land. Nothing in this horrid life do
I look forward to, except a taste of this magnificent brew. You have indeed
earned your reward. The temple is located right beneath this very pyramid!
Yes, even though my fondest wish would be to flee the entire region, I am
bound here by curse, and may not leave. There is a secret entrance to the
temple from a room in this pyramid. The only way to open the passage is to
speak a word of power: Gazmuldduhaz. Speak the word, and the door shall open
for you."
With that, he turns back to his corner, and begins to quietly drink his ale.
Now, head down to the Sandstone Tunnels and find mummified miner. Type examine miner and you will notice a pouch. Type examine pouch and you will then have the key in your possession. Nearby is a door that leads into the room with the hideous abomonation. Use they key to open the door and kill the freak and his friends. If the abomination engulfs you and you die, you will lose your stuff so be careful! Once you kill all the monsters in this room use your pickaxes to mine ore. Once everyone has some ore, take it to Master Smith Martok in Khazzarad. Ask martok red iron ore and ask martok weapon to get your own red iron weapon. There are 3 types but they all have the same stats. Now, head to the small pyramid and head down the southeast corridor and type say gazmuldduhaz to open the secret passage to the scorched caverns below the big pyramid. You will need a large party to continue on from this point.
Run through this level as if the demons of hell are right on your heels! You have 1 minute to get through this level before you fall through to the caverns below. Ignore the * that are not colored. Only the colored ones will open the secret passages leading IN. Once you get to the Sphinx, type ask sphinx fire
Same thing on this level- RUN! This level is pitch black so pay attention to the map as you go. The answer at the end of this level is sun
On this level you can relax and take your time. It is very easy to lose your way on this level. Every single room has a door north south east and west even if there aren't any real exits in those directions. Watch the map and dont get lost. The ? are doors that cannot be picked or bashed. You have to sit and wait for them to open. The F is the floating key- kill it and you have to grab it quick or it poofs. If that happens, just leave the room and come back in. The key opens door to sphinx. The riddle on this floor is stars.
Spell out fourteen to exit this floor. Make one wrong move and you fall through to the scorched caverns. The path steps from the sphinx (*) to the exit (U) are:
w w n n n n e e s w s s e s e e n n n w s u
This level has no tricks. Just make your way around to the X which leads up to the Pharoah and his buddies. The X is a safe room- no monsters so rest up and prepare yourselves! Ask sphinx time to open the room to Pharoah.
Kill Rasstep and his buddies quickly becuase the portal that opens when pharoah dies won't last for long. Rest up as fast as you can and jump in. NOTE: Parties cannot go through the portal- everyone MUST type go portal themselves! Dao Lord is one tough dude!
Dao Lord Tips: DO NOT USE ROOM SPELLS! You will not be in a party anymore so your room spells will hurt the other players. Have the spellcasters use their combat spells to wax the 3 stone elementals in the room with the Dao Lord while the monstrous warrior types wail on Dao with their red iron weapons. DO NOT LET THE PRIESTS ATTACK! You do not have to be engaged with the Dao Lord- just have to be present for the kill. The priests' job is to do nothing but dish out healing spells. Once the spellcasters vanquish the elementals, they can help the fighters with Dao Lord. Use these tips and you should have a fairly easy time with him.
Recommended Party:
3 Warrior Types
2 Spellcasters
1 Priest
Mystics can attack with jumpkicks as long as they have the red iron weapon equipped.
Their crits will help A LOT!!!!
Defeat the Dao Lord and you will get this message:
The Dao Lord explodes in a shower of energy and matter!
You gain 21666 experience.
*Combat Off*
As the Dao Lord explodes, a rippling wave of energy blasts outwards, forcing
you to avert your gaze! A strange tingling sensation washes over your body as
the remnants of the Dao's body, now utterly destroyed on his home plane of
existance, are absorbed into the ether. You feel that a great evil has passed.
<You gain 1,000,000 exp for defeating the Dao Lord and his plans!>
Once you kill Dao Lord, you and all the items in the room will be wisked away to a randon spot in the desert. Find your way out and head to Orfeo.
Type ask orfeo dao and he will give each of you a sunstone wristband.
Good luck!!!!

extremely useful in your quest.

F: Floating key
$: Lion key door
On this level you can relax and take your time. It is very easy to lose your way on this level. Every single room has a door north south east and west even if there aren't any real exits in those directions. Watch the map and dont get lost. The ? are doors that cannot be picked or bashed. You have to sit and wait for them to open. The F is the floating key- kill it and you have to grab it quick or it poofs. If that happens, just leave the room and come back in. The key opens door to sphinx. The riddle on this floor is stars.
